We are leaving in the morning (Friday) for North Carolina. We have a friend who is getting married on Saturday.
On the way we will stop in Augusta and pick up Jonathan, which means we will have a couple of days to spend together as a family.
We will be at a campground on an Air Force base. It's about a block away from the beach on one end and the Cape Fear River at the other end of the park. It's supposed to be a very nice camp. It's definitely cheaper than any other place in the area. And this way we don't have to find a pet sitter. (The fish will stay home with a slow-release food.)

Adoption Update
Our home study was finally approved on July 6th. We sent in a list of 15 cases that we were interested in getting more information.
This week, I received a message back from our case worker that 4 of those are unavailable- either they are already in the process of being adopted or have been withdrawn from the system for some reason.
I was able to get a little bit more information about some of the remaining names from a national website (since we are now approved, I can go one level deeper). This new information has eliminated 2 more children as it was stated that they need to be the youngest or only child in the family (they are not younger than Naomi). The boy in one more case in only a month younger- so most likely would also not be a good match.
We briefly considered a group of three kids from Oregon, but were then informed that we could not work with both a private agency and the state. So we've made the decision to give Georgia some more time (around the end of October).
This will allow Jonathan to finish the school's he's attending, which will make it easier for him to travel for meetings with potential children. It will also allow us to attend a second adoption gathering in August and for a state-wide matching meeting of case workers to happen in September. (this is where the case workers get together and talk about the children and families that they have and see if they can match them with other case workers).
So we continue to wait to hear back from the case workers of the children still on our list and to see what other children may become available for adoption in the next few months.

Jon Paul has enlisted
On Wednesday, Jon Paul was offically sworn into the US Army. He will report to Basic Training on 23 June 2010. He will be in Missouri for 9 1/2 weeks. Then he will report to Huntsville, Alabama for his additional training as an EOD specialist (Explosive Ordinance Disposal). He will be there for 39 weeks.

Simon's Poem
Our beloved dog, Simon lived with us for over 16 years. He is now at rest in the family's pet cemetary in Oregon. Naomi has written a poem in honor of him.

Gentle and caring
peaceful and sharing
Died with a fight
and fought for his life
He didn't want to go
that gentle sad eyed dog
But now he'll rest
with all the pets
this family's held with love
and on the day
that he will wake
he'll meet with us again
But for now he'll sleep
curled up upon his bed
of pink/ soft brown dirt
our sweet puppy dog
lies here for now
But one day soon
we'll see him safe
and see him without pain.
His little friend grieves
His family crys
and laughs for happy times
but now he lies without the pain
and very soon his sleep will end

On Vacation
The girls and I are currently in Oregon visiting family. We left on Sunday, June 14 and arrived on Friday, June 19. It is really nice to be back home on the farm, and out of riding in the Suburban!
This weekend we plan to take a trip over to central Oregon, Portland, and Washington to visit friends.

1) Jonathan is home!!
2) Jon Paul will not be enlisting today. Turns out the processing center ended up being closed today.
3) The girls will be leaving for Oregon on Sunday morning, a day's delay because things didn't get packed in time. (And we decided to spend an extra day with Jonathan before leaving for a month.)
