Trumpet Lily

This is a former Easter lily that was rescued several years ago from being thrown into a dumpster. I have no idea what color it was originally as the flowers were gone when I got it. But since then it has been pink, and this year it is an exceptionally dark pink. Thought I'd share. And interestingly, it doesn't not have an excess of pollen to aggrevate allergies. I don't know if it this particular plant or because it's outside and not as potent.

This is actually an Asiatic Lily and not a trumpet lily. It does have the usual amount of pollen that a lily of this time should have. You'll notice the stamen (anthers). If you get the pollen on your skin or clothes, it will stain. It is a rather permanent stain. I have found no way to remove from clothing and you'll have to wait for it to wear off on the skin. The pollen is not usually airborne but definitely relies on bees to brush up against the anthers and stigma (which is really sticky). botany lesson for the day. Aren't you glad you brought me along? -Mar
