Hello, I thought I'd share with my friends the newest place my ministry has taken me. I'm in Mombasa, Kenya at a military conference for senior commanders (that is - generals) of the armies of 21 countries.
While I am here, I was also able to visit with a bishop of the Episcopal Church of Africa (which is what the Charismatic Episcopal Church is called, here in Kenya). I had originally hoped to say Mass with a congregation that is in Magongo, which is a slum that is a suburb of Mombasa. The congregation has about 70 members, but it is led by a lay pastor, so they don't get a full Mass very often.
Unfortunately my arrival in Kenya was delayed too long and I just didn't have time for more than a 20-minute visit with members of the church yesterday. Today, about half the parish council came and had lunch with me and with the bishop.
I was so humbled because Bishop Chunge had come more than 450 miles by bus - he has no car - to meet with me while I am here. It's not as if I'm someone high up in the denomination. I'm just a priest who met him at a conference last summer.
